I've been running for over a year now and have worked up to 10k, but have been too chicken to run in a real race. In fact, it took me months to be comfortable to run where people can see me at all. I decided to bite the bullet and sign up for a 4k Santa Run - hundreds of runners and walkers dress in Santa suits and run through town along the parade route - just before the Santa Parade. That means lots of spectators. Eeeek! I figured at least I'd be in disguise and no one would recognize me anyway. My Dad, Michelle and Yuli signed up too and we agreed that we would meet at the finish line if we got split up. As it turned out, this year's run started 2 hours before the parade so there weren't many spectators. Thank goodness!
We were able to keep the same pace and finished in just over 26 minutes. Together.
Waiting to line up at the start line:
Michelle's munchkins are in the stroller - they proved to be pretty heavy and were left with my Mom and Brian partway through the race.
My Mom and Brian were waiting at kilometer 1 and 3 with all these cuties cheering us on.
And some nice (blurry) action shots:
After the run, we headed back home for some nice warm chicken and dumplings and hot chocolate before heading to the parade.
Crossing the finish line with my Daddy (and his sore back), Michelle (whose Asthma prevented her from ever running before) and Yuli (my almost Sister-in-Law!) was one of my proudest accomplishments. It wouldn't have been the same without you guys!
