Just another holiday weekend...almost

What better way to spend a long weekend than doing this...

...and this...

....and this?

Well, just as we were cleaning up and getting ready to go inside for dinner, I got a call that Jenn was at the hospital going to have her baby! Not wanting to miss the big event, I showered and high-tailed it to the hospital with Aunt Patti-Lynn, Yuli, Gracie & Hanna. Luckily we didn't miss anything, and we really didn't have to wait very long, though I think Gracie would disagree.

She was thrilled to pack a lunch in Austin's lunch bag (it was so nice of him to forget it in the van!) and Nanny even had a bag of goodies to keep the girls busy.

Hanna had a long day without her mom, but was quick to wake up when she knew we were going to see her new baby sister!

Let me just say, that I've been on both sides of the (baby delivery) door, and I swear it's actually easier to be on the delivery end than in the waiting room. I don't like waiting and not knowing whether everything is okay. Thankfully, it was. Mom & baby are both perfect - in fact Jenn looked amazing right after having her! I have a picture to prove it, but something tells me she'd be less than pleased if I posted a pic of her in her hospital gown. So.... I'll post this one instead. (Please excuse the closed eyes- yet another reason I prefer to be behind the camera!)

Gracie and Hanna were thrilled to meet their baby sister. Happy Birthday Miss Hailey!

Point Pelee

We usually avoid parks on holiday weekends, but the weather was too nice to waste. So, this afternoon I packed a picnic lunch and we headed to the Point for a bit of sun.

Bryanna didn't care how cold the water was- she wanted to swim.

(Don't worry- Brian was warned that if he hiked up his shorts, the evidence would be posted.)

While playing in the tiny waves, Cameron fell into the (shallow) water and couldn't get up for a few seconds. It scared Austin so bad, it almost ruined his day! Seriously, it took me about half an hour to calm him down. He literally cried over the fact that we almost lost him and "wouldn't have a baby anymore!" Needless to say, he didn't allow anyone within about 10 feet of the water's edge.

I can always count on him to look out for the other kids.

Peter Pan

Today I took Austin, Bryanna & Gracie on our last field trip of the school year. Jenn had a doctor's appointment (still no baby!), so Cameron and Hanna stayed back with my mom. While they had a nice day with Nanny, the older kids and I went to see a local production of Peter Pan.

I was a bit worried about how well they (mainly Bryanna) would sit through it, but they were awesome! I don't think Bryanna moved an inch the whole time! In fact, all three kids seemed to be in awe for most of the play. It was put on entirely by kids ages 5-18 -I was really impressed with the quality. The only complaint I have is that Tinkerbell was played by a little girl, as opposed to the traditional light on stage, though I have to give them credit for using bells instead of dialogue.

Bathroom breaks proved to be a bit of a challenge since Austin is too old to use the ladies room, but a bit too young to use the men's room unsupervised. As it turned out, I was able to find a nice (nearly deaf & possibly senile) usher to sit with him while I took the girls. Thankfully, he listened when I asked him not to move, because the usher just smiled and waved goodbye to him when he got up to follow me. She, however, didn't know I was there. I think she would have let him walk off with anyone! (I feel physically ill just thinking about it.)

After the play, we went to McDonald's for happy meals and ran into a few other kids who were also on their way home from the play. Cameron was sleeping when we got back, so the kids even got to play at Nanny & Pappy's house for a while before heading home.

I'm so grateful for the opportunity to take the kids to the theatre at such young ages. It was definitely a good day for all.

Happy Mother's Day

This year, we were fortunate enough to spend mother's day with Brian's mom as well as mine. The kids and I went to see Nanny then my mom while Brian had some quality time with his.

Austin was thrilled to see that the horses were outside today, for the first time this season. Can you guess what was on his mind?

He's been waiting all winter to ride, and was thrilled to finally have his chance! Naturally, the other two had turns as well.

After a short ride, we went home to a nice dinner, cooked by Brian, then had a nice visit with his mom.

Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms out there!
