Ottawa trip - Day 2 - Bobbi-Jo & Bobby's Wedding

After months of waiting, Bryanna finally got to wear her "Cinderella" dress. She couldn't wouldn't didn't stop twirling until the night was over! We met up with everyone at the Museum of Civilization for pictures - Yes, those are parliament buildings in the background. Don't they clean up nice?

A nice lady, obviously with yesterday's Royal Wedding still fresh in her mind commented "Oh my goodness, you look just like a little prince and princess! - Our own William & Kate!" To which Austin, who is usually too shy to speak to strangers, snorted "No. Her. Name. Is. Bryanna." and shot her a look much worse than this:

After a nice ceremony (Okay, what I saw was nice- I had to wait in the hall with a very crabby Cameron for most of it), more pictures were taken, then dinner & dancing.

Just when we thought the kids couldn't wait for dinner any longer, the candy buffet was unveiled. Can you guess what this is?

Bobbi-Jo was so thoughtful and bought candy Legos just for Austin (and Brian)! He was very polite and would only take 2 or 3 at a time, until Aunt Jo brought him the whole bowl - 94 in all. Needless to say, he was entertained for the rest of the night!

Bryanna (still twirling her dress) didn't leave the dance floor the entire night.

.

I thought the younger ones would eventually crash & fall asleep, but the only breaks they seemed to take were in our arms on the dance floor. Bryanna almost fell asleep while Brian line danced!

And Cameron had a few cat naps, but as soon as I tried to lay him in a chair, he was up and ready to go again!

Thanks Bobbi-Jo and Bobby for letting us share your special day!

Ottawa trip - Day 1 - Travelling

Last weekend, we had the pleasure of attending Bobbi-Jo's (Brian's sister) wedding in Ottawa. Most people would dread a nine hour road trip- especially with three small kiddos in tow-  but we were happy to have an excuse to take a weekend trip.

Experience has taught us that early morning is the optimal time to travel with kids -you get a few hours driving while they sleep. (Translation: Quiet and zero bathroom breaks!) We left at 5am, kids in their pjs, pillows and blankets in tow.

Usually, we make pit stops at parks or playgrounds so the kids can run off some energy. However, it was a really wet day, so we stopped at a mall instead. After some mall walking, and a food court lunch, we set off again.

The best part of travelling is not having a schedule, and checking out local attractions as you go. Brian loves to read signs. For anyone who hasn't travelled the Trans-Canada highways, there are literally hundreds of little Mom-and-Pop type (dive) hotels, restaurants, and shops. Brian loves reading the signs for these places-
Some of his favorites from this trip include: "Indian Cuisine & Motel" (Seriously? Who wants Indian food while travelling in a car???) and "Almost Frozen Meat Mart" located inside the "Frozen Food Plaza". Not sure about other areas of the country, but where I'm from, meat is either "fresh" or "frozen". We weren't about to go in and find out what qualified as "almost frozen".

One of our small detours (to see an almost non-existent waterfall) let us to this:

This was someone's front yard- obviously someone who has a rather large hobby. Seriously. I could not make this up if I tried.

We arrived at our hotel around dinner time and hung out at the pool for a while before ordering pizza. All of the kids loved the pool, but the biggest surprise was Austin. Last summer, he wouldn't let go of the ladder, EVER. At our hotel, he was a little fish- swimming everywhere with only water wings- no ring!

It wouldn't be Easter without....

...an Egg hunt.

Even Cameron participated...

...Until he found the basket. Smart kid stayed put after that! (Notice the wrappers surrounding him?)

Every year we go to my parents house for Easter Brunch. Thankfully, we I remembered to take pictures before we ate. Out of at least four dozen shots, this was the best I got:

Good thing my kids are so photogenic!

Little Kids

We went to Jenn & Matt's last weekend for Gracie, Jenn & Yuli's birthdays. We couldn't have asked for better weather for the first BBQ of the season- truly summerish. Anyway, the kids played outside all afternoon, even eating their dinner on the patio.

Well, all except Sawyer, who preferred to have a table all to himself.

Jenn did an awesome job with Gracie's sandbox cake, complete with fondant shovels & pail. I don't have pics, but you can check it out here.

I think the highlight of my night was watching Cameron, Sawyer & Hanna play together. Or maybe it was tied with the chocolate cheesecake.....mmmmmm....
Anyway, back to the kids. The boys don't seem to get much play time together, and Hanna is usually very, um, intolerant, so it was great to see them all racing the length of the house then playing nicely with the kitchen.

Of course, the truce couldn't last long and Cameron unknowingly declared war with Hanna when he sat in her chair while Gracie opened her presents. Oh, how I wish I had pictures of that- it was the first time I ever saw her temper!

I hope we can have lots more days like this through the season.

Cooking 101

I told him (and told him) to never cook a grilled cheese on Max heat.

He ate it anyway, just for spite.
